Meet our Speaker – TARI WILLIAMS

Tari Williams is Organizing Director at Greater Birmingham Ministries (GBM). She utilizes her skills and knowledge as a former prosecutor former law professor community organizer and a directly impacted individual to speak advocate and educate on issues related to criminal justice reform restoration of voting rights civic engagement and others. In her role as Organizing Director she not only leads GBM’s clients staff board and volunteers in organizing around systems change and justice issues; she is also responsible for grassroots leadership development coalition building and spearheading special projects that bridge the 3 tenets of GBM’s mission – building community pursuing justice and serving people.

Tari has maintained a nearly 20-year career in the field of justice work. She has held positions with The Empowerment Alliance and the University of Alabama School of Law where she was an Adjunct Professor and Assistant Dean of Public Interest Law. She is a former member of the Alabama Advisory Committee to the U.S. Civil Rights Commission.

Tari also holds substantial experience in community organizing and leadership development. She earned a certificate from Harvard’s Kennedy School in Leadership Organizing and Action: Creating Change. She was a Facilitator for Alabama Organizing Project’s Grassroots Leadership Development Program and Member of Just Leadership USA Leading with Conviction Fellow Class of 2017.

Tari received a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Maryland in 1992 and her J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1998.
