Scholarships

Women have a chance of getting financial assistance in their higher education pursuits through the Birmingham chapter of Zonta International.  The organization in 63 countries empowers women and expands their access to education, health care, economic opportunities and safe living conditions.

Zonta International (ZI) offers the following awards, scholarships and fellowships:

YOUNG WOMEN IN PUBLIC AFFAIRS AWARD   “YWPA” awards are made to young women ages 16 through 19 who are enrolled in an educational institution, have shown superior leadership skills and a strong commitment to public service and civic causes, and who meet certain other criteria.   Over US$ 1 Million has been awarded since the inception of YWPA in 1990, The application form is available on the ZI website and applications must be submitted through a local Zonta Club.  The deadline for 2021 applications submitted through the Birmingham Alabama club is March 30, 2020.

JANE M. KLAUSMAN WOMEN IN BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIPS   These scholarships were initially funded by a 1998 bequest from Jane M. Klausman, a member of the Zonta Club of Syracuse, New York.   They are awarded to women of any age pursuing undergraduate or master’s degrees in various business-related fields at accredited institutions. Applications must be submitted through a local Zonta Club.  The deadline for 2021 applications submitted through the Birmingham Alabama club is June 30, 2020.

AMELIA EARHART FELLOWSHIPS   Established in 1938 in honor of former Zontian and famous aviator, Amelia Earhart, these fellowships are awarded to women pursuing doctoral degrees in aerospace engineering or space sciences and meeting certain other criteria.  Over US$10 Million has been awarded to women in 73 countries.  Applications must be submitted directly to ZI.  The deadline for 2020 applications has passed, and the application form for 2021 will be available on the ZI Website in July 2020.
