
Women have a chance of getting financial assistance in their higher education pursuits through the Birmingham chapter of Zonta International. The organization in 63 countries empowers women and expands their access to education, health care, economic opportunities and safe living conditions.
Zonta International (ZI) offers the following awards, scholarships and fellowships:
YOUNG WOMEN IN PUBLIC AFFAIRS AWARD
“YWPA” awards are made to young women ages 16 through 19 who are enrolled in an accredited educational institution, have shown superior leadership skills and a strong commitment to public service and civic causes, and who meet certain other criteria. Full details and the application form are on the ZI website. Applications must be submitted through a local Zonta club. The current deadline for applications submitted through the Birmingham club is March 15. The Birmingham club offers its own YWPA award, and the winner’s application is submitted to the Zonta District of which we are a member, so that the applicant has a chance to receive additional awards at the District and International levels.

JANE M. KLAUSMAN WOMEN IN BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIPS
The “JMK” scholarships were initially funded by a bequest from the former Zontian for whom they are named. They may be awarded to women of any age who are pursuing undergraduate or master’s degrees in various business-related fields at accredited educational institutions. Full details and the application form are on the ZI website. Applications must be submitted through a local Zonta club. The current deadline for applications submitted through the Birmingham club is July 15. The Birmingham club offers its own JMK scholarship, and the winner’s application is submitted to the Zonta District of which we are a member, so that the applicant has a chance to receive additional awards at the District and International levels.

AMELIA EARHART FELLOWSHIPS
Established in 1938 in honor of former Zontian and famous aviator, Amelia Earhart, these fellowships are awarded to women who are pursuing doctoral degrees in aerospace engineering or space sciences and who meet certain other criteria described on the ZI website. Applications must be submitted directly to ZI by the deadline shown on its website.
