Zonta Club of Birmingham is a member of Zonta International with chapters in 63 countries. The nonprofit organization strives to make life better for women. Our local club was started by women at the top of their professions in 1940 when they were not allowed to join male-only Kiwanis and Rotary.
Our projects include seeking to help women who are domestically abused and to provide vital health care to women and children. We support requiring masks in schools to protect against COVID, raising the child marriage age, and abolishing human trafficking. We offer women college scholarships. Zonta International works with the United Nations to provide financial support and technical assistance to women and children in developing countries.
